Not-really MOD (a quickie) - Prince (sort of) Expanded
Not-really MOD (a quickie) - Prince (sort of) Expanded
I had too much time on my hands, so I quickly made a slight adjustment to the levels (I left them untouched for the most part) and the executable. The result: "Prince Expanded... sorta".
Don't expect too much from this - all I did was put a (drinkable) extra life potion in every level that didn't already have one (except for Level 12a, since you get an extra life by reunion with your shadow). When you drink all potions and reunite with your shadow, you should have 15 lives total.
The sole goal of this MOD is to locate and drink all the life potions. The ones that were there in the original are still present, but there are five more.

And since I felt like it, here are some teeny tiny hints on getting the extra lives I placed:
Level 1: Look on top of the cliff.
Level 5: Climb as high as you can.
Level 6: Look near the place you use to avoid - but be fast.
Level 8: Look for holes in the ceiling.
Level 10: Go further than you usually do.
(In my opinion, the potion in level 6 is the hardest to get - I also made the most adjustments in that level.)
Have fun... sorta.

I sure wish I could play this! A virus is on my main modding computer so I can't do much except browse the internet on my mom's netbook.

Oh, this is a PC mod, I thought it was a SNES one.
I post on the forum at weird times of the day

I would have noted it specifically if it were a SNES MOD. Also, if you had read my post thoroughly, you would have noticed I wrote "Level 12a". And there's no Level 12a in the SNES games, right? Ri~ght? 'Course there isn't.

How snarky,
Yeah I noticed that after I noticed the fact that the level pack contains a prince.exe and level.dat file instead of a Prince of Persia(U).smc

Or, in my case, Prince of Persia(E).smc, because, strangely, the level editor doesn't allow me to use US ROMs.
So, has anyone played it yet?

I have
. Thanks very much for the hints. Nice locations for the hidden potions which I admit exploring them for the first time. But I believe I used about 20 minutes just to pass level 6, timing had to be absolutely perfect. Battles were slightly tough with the fat guard and Jaffar having the same hitpoints as myself in their respective levels.

Yeah... you can probably guess what I'm about to write.mk1995 wrote:Download link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/e2z2dztzz ... panded.rar

A new download link would be nice...

That sentence tricked me into thinking there is an _extra_ LP in every level.mk1995 wrote:all I did was put a (drinkable) extra life potion in every level (except for Level 12a [...]

After playing a level without an _extra_ LP several times, I came here to let you know an _extra_ LP is missing...
...but then I properly (re)read your whole post and said to myself: "Ah, okay, now I get it."
Not knowing which levels have an _extra_ LP means the player never really knows if it's time to move on to the next level.
That makes it a little complicated; not sure how well that'll be/has been received by players.
It's not a problem when players read your hints, then they know the level numbers.
I would advice players to not read the text after the level numbers though, because that spoils the search.
I'm not really sure about adding this mod to popot.org, since almost nothing has been changed.
On the other hand, adding it would mean all 12 of your mods would be listed there.
I don't know if you have an opinion on this, mk1995?

I edited my first post a bit to avert confusion if it can still be averted.Norbert wrote:That sentence tricked me into thinking there is an _extra_ LP in every level.mk1995 wrote:all I did was put a (drinkable) extra life potion in every level (except for Level 12a [...]
If you want to, go ahead and add it. I myself don't really care, considering that I barely edited the levels at all.Norber wrote:I'm not really sure about adding this mod to popot.org, since almost nothing has been changed.

Yeah, I guess the most logical choice is to not add it, because so little has been changed.mk1995 wrote:If you want to, go ahead and add it. I myself don't really care, considering that I barely edited the levels at all.

Only now tried it, without hints. Nice locations for LP, but not so tricky and difficult enough. On level 6 you can obtain it without timing, just put fat boy on raise button (as I did first time).
This weekend I'll try use Maurice's idea and make own expand version of Jordan original set. Each level also will have LP (except Level 12a). But it will more tricky. I'll add potions to levels where was no one and replace potions on other levels=)

To be honest, most life potions are simply replacing the most distant health potion in a level.Moscow Tracer wrote:Only now tried it, without hints. Nice locations for LP, but not so tricky and difficult enough.

I had time change only 1st 3 levels. On the weekend I'll finish, all extra life potions obtaining pretty tricky and elegant.
