I found a maze with the broken links and identical rooms, but I couldn't find anything interesting there.

So today I watched the walkthrough video.
And... it's so simple, why didn't I notice that?

In one of the identical rooms, there is a button that opens the exit. I blame the SNES graphics for not noticing it.
Now I just have to get back to the now-open exit without getting spiked...
