This is because you didn't pick the color from the palette that image uses.
Page 7 ("5. Using The Colormap") of this document shows how to open the Colormap window in the GIMP image editor.
If you only pick colors from the Colormap, they will be displayed properly in the game.

If you only pick colors from the Colormap window, you don't need gpl2jascpal.
Just install GIMP; download for Windows.

Instead of Save (or Save As...) you need to pick Export...

You don't need to convert any palettes. As I wrote here:

The easiest way to change graphics is by keeping the palettes intact. Then you can 'simply' open the Colormap window and use only the colors that are readily available.

If you simply use the Colormap, you can save the image, and you're done.

You are editing:
VDUNGEON.DAT/vdungeon/floor panels/spikes left.bmp

This means you need to save:
VDUNGEON.DAT/vdungeon/floor panels/spikes left.bmp

.bmp is:
Windows BMP image (*.bmp)

Just overwrite the file you were editing.
You did this before, didn't you, else you could not have created this.
