Pretty sure it's SNES only, because the stars re-align the player further to the left (the game 'helps' the player), thereby pushing the player through the gate.

Yep.

The only thing I can think of that might work are spikes.
I've just tried those, but they don't push the prince through the gate.

I also tried with 3A(always activated), but didn't work... We can see that stars help him cross the door. The other not.

Well, actually, I'd say that is because you guys don't try on it that much, right?. That version has other exclusives tricks/glitches 'cause like stars, it has other obstacles for it, only. And there're things we can do with guards' help which I didn't see on popop site. And or course, I only work on SNES version.

Look for tricks with "X" on them. The ones with guards, you guys'd take a look on DOS. Those tricks're called "X" 'cause they aren't on popot, so if they work there, they'll gain a number.
The ones I got from popot, they've their links on descriptions for those who play on DOS, only.

You can enter the room without making noise.
Then go up and force the skeleton to turn around.
Probably that's how to do it.

Probably wait for SDLPoP 1.21.
For now, play with DOS.
