I'll add it (and also this one) coming weekend.
Will update this post when done.
[Edit: Added one of 'em as trick #148. As atrueprincefanfrom18 pointed out, the other is overflow (broken room links) related.]

I don't think this one is possible in all cases. Something related to broken room links glitch.

I have a question regarding trick 5 : it does allow to go through a closed gate, right?
So could it be used to go through level 5 closed gate on the left? (you know, the one that speedrunners pass with a very annoying glitch, which is trick 35 I guess)
I fail to understand exactly what's happening on this trick.

Same question with trick 7 an 96.

I can't reproduce them, hence my question.

Trick 5 - Drink potion to go through gates and mirrors.
Trick 7 - Go through the side by side gates - 1.
Trick 35 - Enter into combat and pass through gate.
Trick 96 - Go through the side by side gates - 2.

The one which is used in speedrunning is Trick 35. What exactly happens is you enter into the combat and while you are in combat, the game refuses to switch screens, however it's keeping track where the prince goes (while doing so, the game doesn't check if there's gate in-between).

Even I am not able to replicate it somehow, it really requires proper key-strokes.

If you don't press the left key for some time, the game realises the screens should change and then you can't go through the gate that way. If you keep pressing the left key perfectly, you can definitely do the trick.

Try using SDLPoP and you can use Quicksave and improve chances of doing the trick :)

Potions next to gates aren't always visible, I'm guessing that's what makes it confusing.

Do you mean this gate?

Trick 5 works only if there is a potion (or sword) on the right side of the closed gate.
This gate doesn't have that, so you can't use this trick here.
(Actually, none of the gates in the original levels have a potion on their right side.)

In the video for trick 5, it might seem there is nothing on the right side of some gates, but that's just a drawing glitch.
The potions do appear while the prince is near them (0:04-0:05 and 0:10-0:11).
And the bubbles of the potions are visible through the whole video if you look hard enough (zoom in).

For trick 7, you need an open gate immediately on the right side of the closed gate.
In the original game, only level 7 has something similar, in the room with the purple guard.

For trick 96, you need the same as for trick 7.

You see, many tricks require a specific arrangement of things in the level.
Some of these don't occur on the original levels, which means you can't use those tricks on the original levels.

Thank you for your answers :)
(my original message wasn't explicit about trick 35: when I said I couldn't replicate it, I was talking about trick 5, but that's because I hadn't the right tiles arrangement obviously ;) )

I had hopes there would be a less painful way to go through this freaking gate on level 5, because trick 35 is very random (it's complicated to hit the left key at the right rythm). Too bad!

I think Jordan Mechner had found out such tricks while developing and therefore tried to minimize the glitches... Who else thinks the same?

Oh, it works perfectly indeed, thanks!
Not sure if using Esc is allowed during speedruns though, I'll have to check.

I'm not sure about that. I mean, most tricks require doing something weird, or having a weird tile setup. For instance, climbing through a closed gate requires having a gate above an edge, which doesn't look great.
Anyway, you could just ask him on Twitter, I'm sure he'll answer ;)

Hah! It would be great if he watched few trick videos and reacted! Let's ask him if we find 200 (or 150?) tricks on PoPOT. Currently we have 148 tricks (including variants). Let's see if we can find two more tricks and then we can post on social media tagging him (or '@'tting him). :P

Found two new tricks. Don't know if second one is already known (maybe it's lesser known).

1. Align yourself as shown. Then press right and immediately press up key.

2. Trick of dropping the tile first on spike and then yourself. It's just a matter of few milliseconds, instead of falling with the same speed as the tile, you first bump into the wall and then you land later, and by the time, the spikes won't hurt you as they are suppressed under the tile.

First one should definitely be added to PoPOT! :)
