Download: First One
This is my mod of the Game Boy Color version.
The levels are not hard and do not contain difficult tricks.
Each level has only 1 room.
On November 7th (next Monday) I will release a level editor for the Game Boy Color version.
How many levels of this mod can you finish before the level editor is released?
Mednafen can be used to play Game Boy Color mods.
To rebind keys, use Alt+Shift+1.
If you want to skip ahead to other levels, you can use the passwords mentioned in the README.TXT file that's inside the mod's ZIP.

I have only looked superficially at ports other than DOS/SNES/GBC.
The graphics of the Sega Genesis port are pretty nice.

Re: First One (Game Boy Color mod)
I began playing about 1 hour ago...
From viewtopic.php?p=19785#p19785
And some exit doors are already open. (But they don't always stay that way...)
There is a sword in the Language-select level, and it stays there after I pick it up. Weird...
A chomper in the princess's room? That's gonna hurt...
And a dead guard in the password room?
You really edited all levels...
I finished these levels:
Level 1: I see it's possible to stay crouched in the air after a loose floor fell from there.
Level 2: Okay, this is crazy... I admit I looked into the level data in RAM for this one. And it helped...
Level 3: That skeleton... I can't just run away from it because the it takes too long to put the sword away. (It's the same animation as getting the sword.)
After you escaped the skeleton, the rest is easier.
Level 4: Loose floors don't disable spikes. The level would be much easier if they did.
Did I just close the exit?
Level 5: It's pretty hard to jump over that close button...
The shadow gets stuck if I close the gate on him.
Level 6: What? The same button closes one gate and opens another? And the shadow is yellow.
Level 7: Yes, those loose floors will close the gate...
I did not start level 8 yet.
Hey, the prince has different colors on different levels!
From viewtopic.php?p=19785#p19785
For example, it's possible to enter the exit room that is in the starting room.Norbert wrote:The mod uses only 1 room per level. [...] The majority of the rooms incorporate something unique to the GBC port.

Thanks for looking at the mod.David wrote:I began playing about 1 hour ago...
Yeah. A lot of these rooms are in the same level. The game loads a 'various' level where necessary, and sometimes it populates it with dungeon tiles and sometimes palace tiles. That level has a broken room link too, the room to the left of the princess room doesn't link back.David wrote:You really edited all levels...
Re: First One (Game Boy Color mod)
Challenge accepted! Though I am not very far yet, I don't think I will make that deadline.Norbert wrote:Next Monday, 7 November, I will release the level editor.
Its GUI is virtually identical to that of apoplexy.
There are, however, several differences.
For example, the port ignores - they do exist - event numbers of raise and drop buttons, and uses a separate list.
This means there are about 5 days between the release of the mod and the level editor.
The idea is that this turns the mod into a 5 day challenge.
The gameplay is... fascinatingly strange... Takes some getting used to!
