Prince of Persia – Same Story Different Version

Post by T0mmiTheGreat »

https://www.popot.org/custom_levels.php?mod=0000276

This one took way longer than a Prince of Persia mod should. The main reasons are school, and new ideas coming over and over again. The resulting quality might not exactly correspond to the time I spent working on it, but I'm really satisfied with the result anyway.

More info  the PDF attached to the mod file.

Here is a place for your questions, criticism and bug reports. I did a bunch of .exe modifications so I doubt it is completely bug-free. If you want your message to be private, send me a private message; I have no problem with it. Or you can write a comment in the PoPOT site. It's all up to you.

Hope you'll have fun :)

Oh, cool. That suits :)

Well, I started like 3 years ago. I think that not even the development of Prince of Persia took so long
Maybe it did; anyway, 3 years to create a simple mod is still a little over the top :D

Is there a reason why SDLPoP doesn't have the same effects as the DOSBox with this mod?
In SDLPoP, the level names are set to default. Also on Level 9 for example, there's no shadow's behaviour at all. It was fine until Level 12 where the mouse was supposed to help you get through a gate and SDLPoP doesn't show the mouse at all, leaving the prince stuck. Maybe the mod author also needs to provide an SDLPoP.ini file?

You cannot just copy-paste the mod to the SDLPoP, it won't work correctly. As I said, I did a bunch of .exe modifications (in the DOS .exe), so modifying only the .ini file wouldn't be enough, the changes would also have to be applied to the SDLPoP executable.

I was/am thinking about adding support for this "platform". The reason why there isn't any yet is because I didn't manage to compile the program. I might give it one more shot, but don't promise anything. :)

Until then, you'll sadly won't be able to use Quicksave and other handy gimmicks that SDLPoP offers :P

Hmm, can someone maybe help build this mod with SDLPoP? It's kinda difficult for me to play it without Quicksave :D
Normally SDLPoP picks up the EXE file, right? I don't know why it's not happening in this mod though.

SDLPoP can only pick hacks it knows. That's mostly hacks that can be applied using CusPoP. My mod, however, uses my own modifications (mouse appears even when the level door is closed, shadow behaviour is completely reprogrammed, etc.), which aren't recognized by the SDLPoP.

Anyway, it's done ;)
It's sort of clapped up, so it might be a little more bugged than the DOS version (although I playtested it once for each difficulty and didn't encounter anything wrong). You can download it from here, and I also updated the file at PoPOT.

I really like this mod. The non-standard events always make things more interesting. And the level of difficulty makes it more accessible to different players. The last level took a few attempts to figure out.

In Chapter 6 it is really easy to jump over the first guard so it takes seconds to pass.

Whoops. A mistake has crept in… Thanks for the report, I have fixed it :)

By the way, ATPFF18, are you going to make a playthrough of the updated Chapter 6? It's not really necessary, only something you might consider. ;)
