Hello,

I was just wondering if it is possible to complete original PoP if you don't have a sword to fight. Let's assume the "Prince has sword" is "N" in the Apoplexy editor using F2. It turns out to be that there are just 5 places where the Kid can't get through the guards. You will be have to be in cheat mode to kill the guard so you can get through.

These are the 5 places in original PoP where you can't get past the guard:

Level 2 - Room 15: You cannot jump through the guard, nor can silently walk through him, because he is already facing you. If he was facing the other direction, it was possible to bypass him.


Level 7 - Room 10: There's a drop tile gate, so even if you make the guard turn, while climbing, he will face back and hit you. If the drop tile wasn't there, it could have been possible to bypass him properly.


Level 8 - Room 5: I think it's possible to bypass him, but I couldn't do it properly. I tried various distances but it didn't work. Maybe SuavePrince can show us how to bypass without a sword! . Because, I play like this when I have a sword, but if you don't have the sword, the guard has enough time to hit you before you run. So, SuavePrince, please help!


Level 11 - Room 22: This guard, even though he's facing the opposite direction, there are loose tiles which we have to fall which create noise, so we can't bypass him again...


Level 11 - Room 16: This one is problematic as we don't have any way to bypass him. If he was facing the other direction, we could have tiptoed around and pass him.


I was thinking that only Level 2 is where you need to fight a guard, but there are 4 more places.

And at Level 10, where you really need combat with yellow guard in Room 5, as you have to press the open gate which is located in Room 11, above Room 5, you can do a lot of tricks to bypass him. I initially thought, you won't be able to pass him, but seems you can bypass him!

If anyone is not understanding how to bypass a certain guard in certain level in original PoP, please ask me, I'll make video and post here.

I thought you were talking about enabling the option "the prince must have the sword in none of the levels" displayed in CusPoP, that would be really hard

Level 8 yes, you can pass the guard,dont need sword

Yes, playing with that option is hard but possible to complete original PoP if you just exclude those 5 places (or 4 if SuavePrince shows us how to bypass without sword).

Please will you show us? Because Prince gets saved as he has sword so he draws it, but if he doesn't have and try same way, prince dies...

Ok, I'll upload video of what the problem is, in an hour.

Yes! I tried now and I got the perfect distance to run and jump! I'll upload a video in an hour explaining what happens if you do normally and what happens with that distance. As SuavePrince explained here that you need to look perfect distance if the guard doesn't move, so it doesn't always work, but if you practice, you can do it.

That means you can bypass all Level 8 guards as well. So, there are only 4 places where you would need sword or some change in the level and for rest of the game you can get past everybody without sword!

I just finished playing original PoP1 without sword. Need to kill 4 guards as mentioned in the first post (Level 8 is bypassed). I'll post a video in next 24 hours showing how to do it. Level 10 is a bit of luck, but I liked it than all other tricks!

Done! Do watch how I finished Level 10, it's very interesting as that's the level where we have to deal with a combat with the yelloww guard so as to knock the tile and press the tile to open the gate. Level 10 timestamp is: 18:36

Nicely done.
It's good that you kept failed attempts in there, because that makes the video more interesting and fun to watch.
I like how you eventually solved this (similar here and with Jaffar).
Finally this room is useful.
The fat guard is scary this way; this section too.
And such an unexpected solution for level 10. So much work without a sword...
