Using PR for Other games?

Hi, I came across this link today: PR info which led me to your forum.

I am a Prince of Persia fan, the games are awesome! But in this case I am here by accident! *lol*

I have been trying to mod a game for 2 years... Well I can not even try anything until I can ACCESS the files! There are different files I could find, off the DVD, but I cant open them. But the MAIN files, once I install the game, are all .dat format. I know they must be archives, but I can not view, extract from, or import into these. There is NO community for modding this game. There is not even a shred of customer support for it. Fans try to support each other sometimes on its rather slow/dead forums. I feel like I am on my own... But I do not know how to mod any games but I want to learn, but its impossble to do anything if I can view and access the .dat files!

Then I found that link. I had no idea it has to do with Prince of Persia by that link. It just sounded like it can open game .dat files and that is what I need. But this is for the OLD Prince of Persia game! I dont know if that is going to be able to support Metal Gear Solid 2.

Does ANYONE here know anything about this and can help me? I have been trying to do this for so long, and never gave up on the idea, but I had to put the idea aside many times as its easy to give up when no one helps and you have no where to turn....

Does anyone have any information for me on .dat archives and how to extract them from newer games? Cause I'm really lost here.... Do you think this PSP PR program would actually work?

Welcome on our forum for Prince Of Persia fans!
Usually the Dat file structure is different in each game. PR can extract now every Prince Of Persia 1 dat file, and half of Prince Of Persia 2 dat files. I've tried now how it works with Karateka (previous Mechner game) dat files, but i suppose that pr can't extract them. So there is no one structure for dat files, like in zip, rar, bmp etc.. We are not able to read dat files of newer games.
If you still want editing Prince Of Persia and you want any help, no problem, just ask, we will help you  Now editing even everything in Prince Of Persia is easy, because there are a lot of tools. Download the latest version of these programs from http://www.princed.com.ar/ :
RoomShaker - for editing Prince Of Persia 1 levels.
Princed Resources Editor - for editing Prince Of Persia 1 dat files (graphics, musics etc.).

Ok, thanks very much for your help.

Well I am not interested in editing the game at this time, but I'd love to play POP2 again. I remember playing it, and it was quite awesome. I dont think I beat it, and I cant quite remember where I got stuck, but I'd like to play it again and try and beat it this time. Games like POP are what defined PC gaming back then for me, along with point and click adventure games. PC gaming just isnt what it used to be anymore.

Thanks for the help though. Yeah .dat seems to not be a common format thats the same everywhere. For each game its different, and I suppose the developer also developed their OWN personal .dat extractor for their own files, which other people are not to access.... But I look everywhere on the web and I cant find a solution to my problem. :(
