Hi there some of you will be able to answer, some others won't
I would like to know:
How much did Prince of Persia cost when it was just released?
Past questions (Original PoP prices?)
Re: Past questions (Original PoP prices?)
Probably one way to find out is to check magazines, particularly ads for the game.Emiliano Fierro wrote: ↑June 17th, 2020, 9:10 pmHow much did Prince of Persia cost when it was just released?
Re: Past questions (Original PoP prices?)

Re: Past questions (Original PoP prices?)
And we can translate these prices to 2020 US dollars (or pounds sterling), taking inflation into account (thanks to this website and this website):Norbert wrote: ↑June 19th, 2020, 12:15 pmHere, I actually looked through them, and now have the prices.

Re: Past questions (Original PoP prices?)
Yeah, it really was expensive. When reading through the magazine scans, I noticed that many reviews that scored various aspects of the game separately gave the game's price a D grade.

Re: Past questions (Original PoP prices?)
Isn't price for Apple II really too expensive? I mean it was a dying platform and it's in the second rank of pricing...
Re: Past questions (Original PoP prices?)
Well, it looks to me like regular prices for a video game today (at least in France, it probably varies from one country to another), so I'm not surprised.
Re: Past questions (Original PoP prices?)
Regular for triple A games.
Sure, its fluid/realistic animation was unique at the time, but Prince of Persia was not a triple A game.
Final Fantasy VII (1997), according to Wikipedia, "had a staff of over 100, with a combined development and marketing budget of around $80 million".
I think Prince of Persia was strikingly/too expensive.
Again, you can also tell by the bad grades it got for its price.
[Edit: Attached some price grades I could find. The one on the very right is for PoP2.]
