What does Jaffar say when you enter the tower?

Post by David »

On the last level, when you enter the tower, Jaffar says something.
It's in DIGISND.DAT, PR exports it as _snd10600.wav.

I tried to write it down: lo'olu al-farak wal fora kii.

I guess it's Arabic. But what could it mean?
Google Translate tries to translate it, but the result does not seem to make much sense...

What I'm sure about is that it's not the same as this.

I tried the same, I make out: lo'lwal-thra w'al srakien

It's probably not. It's probably Persian (and/or Dari or Tajiki).
One Arab I asked said he possibly recognized "wa alf" which means "and a thousand".
This might be part of a reference to "One Thousand and One Nights".

[Edit: Another person who says he knows Persian reacts: "That doesn't sound like [Persian]. I'm not sure if it is a language! maybe they just made a noise up!"]

i can hear : lol wa alfrak wa alf raki / makes no sense, only "wa alf" (and a thousand)
it cant be persian, they dont have W sound but it's V instead > "And" is VA in Persian not WA (as in arbaic).

ive been listening to this non stop, if u listen very closely the F sound kinda sounds like S > so maybe he says: "law wa antsrak wa ansraki" meaning "if i defeat you and defeat her" but the thing this is not a formal way to say that (mostly a colloquial way of saying these words)

I guess it's just made up noise

Maybe it includes "wa'allaf" or "raqi"?
I think: raqi = sophisticated = راقي

[Edit: One man who might be able to figure out who said the phrase - if he didn't himself - is Michael Barrett. He's a voice actor and his Voice123 profile lists PoP2.]

raqi can mean a calm person or high (as in high status/class).

what i can pretty much confirm is that its the same word repeated:

lo wa "the word" wa "the word"

I've contacted Michael Barrett. He replied: "I recognized myself as the first guard who falls screaming from the parapet after the Prince jumps through the window at the start of gameplay. [...] I wish I could offer more assistance on the phrase in question. It is definitely not Ralph or Tom, but sounds to me like Mark Petrakis, who also did the narration. [...] The reverb certainly doesn’t help its intelligibility. [...] The only person I can imagine who might still might have a copy of the script would be Jordan."

I've also contacted Mark Petrakis. He replied: "Well, if it was me, it sure was modified ... but no recollection of the line itself..."

This pretty much leaves Jordan Mechner, he's the only person who might still know.
