Higlak's newest WR 13:48:00.

It's getting to the point where I don't think I'll get my WR back.

I think a small amount of time can be saved at the 'jump through gate' skip in level 7, bumping into the wall is not strictly necessary, it's enough to jump at the correct spot (see the attached SDLPoP replay).

That's great to know! Might improve a couple of seconds.
Is there a frame counter or something in SDLPoP?

With cheat mode enabled, you can press T.
To have time counting up instead of down, you can change the starting minutes left from 60 to -1.

I meant counting frames from the replay file. A command line parameter itself. For example:

Code: Select all

$ ./prince megahit debug --replay-file "/path/to/replayfile.p1r" --count-frames
something like that.

If you mean the total number of frames, you can use the "validate" parameter:

Code: Select all

$ ./prince validate "/path/to/faster L7 gate skip.p1r"

[...]
Play duration:  0 min, 7 sec, 10 ticks. (curr_tick=94)

Play duration matches replay length. (94 ticks)

I tried counting the number of frames by repeatedly quickloading and comparing the time at the frame on which the kid lands on the floor below (by advancing the frame one by one using the escape key). It seems to save about 4 ticks compared to bumping into the wall.

I tried to find another time save in level 8, in the section just after the dark blue guard (see attached replay). Unfortunately, it only seems to save around 2 ticks, it costs a health point, and is tricky also because the timing of the chomper gets messed up.

Yes, it does seem fast, but it's difficult if you jump through the guard keep him alive and run towards the left room and getting into that distance is also a bit tricky, so I don't think it's worth trying...
