SNES Mod: The Quiet Levels
Re: SNES Mod: The Quiet Levels
Oh ho! No I didn't know about that unique paradiddle; well goes to show, you never stop learning. Thank you. I'll be back to begging for more hints soon enough.
Re: SNES Mod: The Quiet Levels
Hello,
Stuck again. Can't make it through level 7 past this gate:

I've tried every combination of hitting/not hitting triggers, dropping guards on them, or ignoring them, but that gate stays impassable. Hint, please!

Re: SNES Mod: The Quiet Levels
The good news is that you are not stuck. This room is not a part of the main solve to complete level 7. The gate you're referring to is an escape gate: You enter the room from the right to get the life potion, hit the open switch, and escape before the gate closes. I prefer not to spoil the puzzling involved to get to the life potions until I do full video walkthroughs, but if you need more hints to complete level 7 I'll be happy to help.
Re: SNES Mod: The Quiet Levels
Thank you. That advice saved me a lot of woe. I did make it out the exit. Still can't figure out how to get the potion.
Something to do with the mystery trigger near the beginning?

Re: SNES Mod: The Quiet Levels
Speaking from my experience: Giving out solutions to puzzling or hidden life potions severely reduces a mod's prestige. Especially in a mod like this one where obtaining the potion is sometimes more puzzling than completing the level itself. Another reason for my hesitance is that in this mod there is a level that cannot be completed if you haven't gotten a certain amount of potions from previous levels, in other words the potions are needed to complete the game.
Here are some facts regarding life potions int this mod:
- There are a total of 6 life potions in the game.
- 4 out of 6 of the potions are placed in levels 1-7.
- The level 5 potion cannot be reached (Shadow).
- There are no fake tiles in the game, therefore none of the life potions here are obtained by the means of going through what appears to be a wall, like certain potions are in the original SNES game.
As I said before anything to do with completing the levels (minus the life potions), I will gladly reply. But having learned from my mistakes as a PoP player and other mod makers' mistakes who have been quick to provide complex solutions or video walkthroughs, I think it's best if we bring back the element of mystery and surprise into the mods. For this mod, the life potions are meant to do just that. I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

I'd like to try it, but i don't know, how to open .smc file?
Re: SNES Mod: The Quiet Levels
You have to use a Snes emulator. I'd recommend Snes9x, but their download page (http://www.snes9x.com/downloads.php) is currently having problems.
However, you can download it here: http://www.zophar.net/snes/snes9x.html. (You need to choose the "Windows binaries (x86)".)

Re: SNES Mod: The Quiet Levels
k i downloaded, but when i'm in menu, i can't chose any option, e.g. game start. i'm wondering if i should change input settings, but there is no keyboard option. Please help.
Re: SNES Mod: The Quiet Levels
If you're trying to use Enter to start the game, then that's the problem.
To start the game, you have to press the key assigned to SNES's "A" key in the main menu.
In v1.53 it's "V" by default, but you can change the keys at Input/Input configuration.

Re: SNES Mod: The Quiet Levels
Since you've made it this far, it's evident that you have advanced playing skills! I will do my best not to spoil the level for you with my hints.
Hint: Start the level over and avoid losing health any way you can. You can use savestates to help you get to the screen shown without losing any health.
Level 8 is the hardest level of this mod. Completing the level with only 3 health points can get rather frustrating. If you decide to give up on it for now but wish to continue with the mod, PM me the password for level 8 and I will send you 9's password. The reason I'm offering this is because I myself probably wouldn't be able to complete this level if someone else had made it.

Ok, I sent you the mail, because I can't pass level 8 (I use savestates constantly).

Re: SNES Mod: The Quiet Levels
I got your PM but I couldn't reply. I got this error:
"Some users couldn’t be added as they have disabled private message receipt."
To fix this:
-Go to ucp.php?i=165
-Set "Allow users to send you private messages:" to 'Yes'.
