Stuck again. Can't make it through level 7 past this gate:

I've tried every combination of hitting/not hitting triggers, dropping guards on them, or ignoring them, but that gate stays impassable. Hint, please!

Oh ho! No I didn't know about that unique paradiddle; well goes to show, you never stop learning. Thank you. I'll be back to begging for more hints soon enough.

I am stuck on level 5. There appears to be a trigger at the bottom of a pit you can't escape; you can lure a guard to fall into it but it doesn't seem to work as far as opening any gate.
I am using ZSNES for Mac.
