speedrun world records

Post by Norbert »

Here's some information about the current unofficial 'verified' speedrun world records.
For the MS-DOS version, it is 13:42.73 by Ma5terViking. He uploaded a 13:44.73 minute speedrun and later improved level 8 with two seconds (24 frames@12 fps).
For the SNES version (20 levels), it is 35:25 by UraniumAnchor. His speedrun can be downloaded and watched at SDA and is also available at the Internet Archive.

Is there any information regarding the fastest continuous, unbroken speedrun? The first one above (made with PoP1 v1.0 for DOS), is made up of separate segments, i.e. each level has been started and played through individually (plus like you said, one of the level times has been subsequently decreased). Also, I wonder if using an emulator like DOSBox makes a difference to the game timing. I'm sure it does. Finally, since some of the glitches the run depends upon might have been fixed in the other versions, do you happen to know the current records for each version of PoP1?

A record of less than 10 minutes is most likely a fake. I mean, you can simply enter your time left in the form at the bottom of the page and if they don't trust you, you just edit a screenshot with your hall of fame entry to make it look like you did it that quickly.

And they fall for it, apparently...

Just to make something clear: I will not reply to daft PMs like "Where can I find X?" or "Can you give me a link to Y?". Most of your questions are likely answerable if only you took your bloody time to look through these forums and use Google if all else fails. Sheesh...

Hi Guys,

i started speedrunning PoP a while ago and today something weird happend, and i thought you can maybe explain.
I was playing the first level normally (jump through guard) and when i entered the door i noticed i left the sound on. so i pressed esc deactivated the sound and pressed some random keys.
The Level changes and i get to Level 12 (!) with 58 Minutes left (!!) (if i would have recorded this i would have the wr now :D )
Anyway....anyone knows how this is possible, can be recreated?

if there is a better place to post this let me now

thanks!

I'm pretty sure someone else posted about the same thing, but the forum does not let me search for "level 12".

There is a bug in the cracked version, explained here: viewtopic.php?p=13476#p13476
David wrote: Make sure you have a saved game.
Start the game in cheat mode. Press Ctrl-L on the title screen.
Press Shift-L until you get to level 1. - Or, press Ctrl-R and any key to start a new game.
If you press Shift-L now, you'll get to the saved level.
Cheat mode is not needed, though.

Another fast run, mentioned by David here (and PoPUW):

I think if everything goes perfect in a single run, you can complete in 10 to 12 mins... All videos have some faster tricks missing...

Looking at this speedrun, I was wondering what happens at 3:34 of this one.
