SDLPoP cannot create .DAT files.
To create modified .DAT files, you need to use the program PR.
How to do that is described in the document that Norbert linked to here:
Norbert wrote: March 12th, 2018, 9:46 pm Either modify the data/ files of SDLPoP or MININIM, or read this document.
If you don't understand any of it, I can't help you.
After you download PR, also read the documentation (in the doc/ folder) carefully, in addition to the document that Norbert linked to.
Note that PR uses .bmp images instead of .png images. So, to use your modified images with PR, convert them to the .bmp format.

PR has its own forum board, by the way.

Good luck!

The program is located in the bin/ folder.
You can go inside that folder, then press Alt+D (or click the address bar of the window), then type "cmd" and press enter.
Then you have a command window, within that working directory.
Then you can run the program by typing "pr".

If you copy a .DAT file (for example, TITLE.DAT) inside that same folder, you can extract it by typing "pr --export TITLE.DAT"
Then you can find the extracted image files in the new directory that has appeared.

After you have edited the .bmp files, you can update the DAT file: "pr --import TITLE.DAT"

Also see the explanation in Norbert's document. (have you read that?)

It will become easier once you know and understand the steps.

He uses Photoshop, the document GIMP (and, basically, Linux).
I see many more questions coming in the future, including about modifying palettes.
Also, even with the "Windows batch file" linked here, questions about using the command-line.
Have fun. :)

Hi Aram, I was not trying to say that you can't do anything.
If I gave the impression I think you cannot do things, then I apologize.

Hello, Norbert! I did it, but I don't understand. You are on the forum sent me SDLPoP for the development of the TITLE, VPALACE and VDUNGEON. But Falcury sent me " pr." and with the help of this program I did this.
Question. What was needed SDLPoP for?

With SDLPoP, you don't need PR, and you get all SDLPoP features (native application (no need for DOSBox), replay recording, quick save+load, modern gamepad support, optional torch shadows, etc).
Plus it's easier to modify sound effects and music.

Well why did Falkuri say that.

SDLPoP doesn't need DAT files.
Its game resources are not in DAT files.
They are just plain images and such, in the data/ directory.
If you'd want to share/distribute a graphically modified VDUNGEON of SDLPoP, you'd distribute that entire subdirectory.
So you could still distribute your 'DAT file', it just wouldn't be a DAT file, it would be a VDUNGEON.ZIP with lots of images in it.
