(work-in-progress) PoP Modding 2021 Update video

Post by Norbert »

The July 2013 "Prince of Persia Modding Video" is outdated. The plan is to create and publish an update video. Similar to the old thread where the previous video was discussed, this thread can be used to discuss the update video. Below is a first rough draft. If anything notable (person, thing, whatever) is missing, please let me know. After a week or so, I'll post the exact narrative text that I have in mind, to hopefully once again receive feedback. And then I'll simply make the thing.

Looks really great. I can definitely see you have taken a lot of time to jot down this info!

You could consider adding some difficult mods too, to let the people know there can be various different tricks used and there are 'n' number of possibilities with this game. Maybe if I could suggest: Lockdown on Persia and/or Nasty Dungeons. I'm not sure if it should be mentioned, I leave the decision to you.

SuavePrince does have an unofficial speedrun video that is not mentioned anywhere at all.

Maybe also adding the fact how many tricks were discovered after the 2013 video might be good (Even I didn't count).
And I don't know if it's important to show the names who found the trick.

Why not. Even this could be mentioned (Although it's still buggy and incomplete).

Maybe it might be worth to show something related to what might be possible by altering the SDLPoP source code. As you can see dmitry did a very great job with the Prince 1 and 1/2 mod.
Love to create new MODS :)

Yeah, I would add SDLPoP editor as well.

Thanks for all the feedback.
More, also from others, is, of course, always welcome.

I'm curious, atrueprincefanfrom18, do you know what poirot writes about (I do)?

I guess he means you could add SDLPoP Editor in the video as well. Although it's a bit difficult to use unless you practice it, people (or at least fans) might be surprised to notice there's no limit to what you can do with modding.

Am I right poirot?

Yeah, in my case I love shortcuts and key codes, the same when I use photoshop, I don't like a tools widget to select, I want keycodes!!! 👨‍💻

BTW, about https://youtu.be/8bJitLw8x40 I recommend watching in 2x, if not it's super boring, sorry I didn't add audio, my daughter is sleeping and I don't want to wake her up. I'll try to find some time to make a real screencast with sound and comment a but about the usage.

By the way, what exactly is the state of the editing functionality?
Are you waiting for the editor branch to be merged with the master of SDLPoP, poirot?

After discussing with David, we decided to leave it into its own branch, so if you want editor functionality, you just have to check out that branch. Merges are done from master into the editor branch from time to time. I personally find the editor branch very mature and releasable. I've used it to build my own mod and it's very useful to play and edit at the same time. You can also use it to teleport the kid while testing or even playing.

I don't know why the outcome of your discussion with David was to leave the functionality in its own branch, but it's unlikely to get any mainstream traction there, I think. Especially given the last merge from master was five years ago, and you don't distribute compiled Windows binaries...

Maybe publish?

By the way, did you move from Argentina to Australia? :)
(Because I remember you being from Argentina, but your forum account says "Location: Australia".)

I'm planning to publish when I finish, it's a huge mod, so it'll take time.

Yeah, I wish it was included in the mainstream SDLPoP, anyways, we can upload the binaries to the page.

Yeah, I hope, but it'll have so many features and levels... but this is off-topic :)
