Does this remind you of PoP?
Does this remind you of PoP?
I found this screenshot among the Random Screenshots on the MESS website:
(As the name says, these are *random*, so this image probably won't appear the first time.)
Do you think the guy in the door looks a bit like the prince?
[As a side note, there is also an actual PoP screenshot among the images.]
Unfortunately the site does not tell what games (or other programs) are shown on the screenshots.
Update:
I did a reverse image search for this image: (on Google and TinEye)
http://mamedev.emulab.it/etabeta/2009/0 ... ssundorma/ -- No name here either, just "Mapper 139".
http://www.emu-land.net/consoles/dendy/ ... nly&id=624 -- The game is called "Hell Fighter".
EDIT: Changed topic title from "Does he look like the prince?" to "Does this remind you of PoP?"

Re: Does he look like the prince?
Zoomed comparison. They are somewhat similar, I agree.
Maybe the light clothes play a big role.
Plus, so few pixels to work with... it makes sense, for example, to use 1 pixel for the nose.

I tried this game now.David wrote: http://www.emu-land.net/consoles/dendy/ ... nly&id=624 -- The game is called "Hell Fighter".
It's a run-jump-shoot type game with some interesting things...
It seems to be an Unlicensed Chinese game.
The player can break walls in various ways.
One way is to jump up under the wall, just like Mario.
(Speaking of Mario, the level does not scroll to the left.)
It's also possible to break the floor in front of you or under yourself...
Some walls contain power-ups (red/blue balls) that do various things.
(You can usually see them behind the wall.)
The Select button makes the player die and thus restarts the level. (Ctrl+A, anyone?)
(The default mappings in FCEUX are s=Select, d=B, f=A, so it's too easy to press it accidentally.)
Why did they add this? Is it even possible to get stuck?
I gave the Russian description to Google Translate: (emphasis by me)
Hmmm..."Hell Fighter" - this is a terrible name of this game. In fact, everything at least badly. You - the guy similar to Prince of Persia. Walk and throw arrows at any evil spirits. The hero can even break the blocks as in Super Mario Bros. But salt is that it is impossible to guess what the unit can shoot and what not. Die Prince on our one touch. But how! You turn into a skeleton and start the silly dance. Oddly enough, but the Select button is responsible for the suicide! Better not to swing there on the NES games much better.
And I found something (other than the player) that looks like it was copied straight from PoP.
Can you find it on this screenshot?

Chinese copy all
Re: Does he look like the prince?
Some screenshots from Super Aladdin (NES):
Do they remind you of anything?
Note that this "door with stairs" is also present in other versions of the game.

Re: Does he look like the prince?
Ok, Arabian castle from afar and door with stairs... can still be argued it's difficult to make them look too different. But this? Wow, what a blatant rip off!David wrote:

It's still very similar to this: http://www.popot.org/get_the_games/imag ... le_big.png
(Hey, what is that orange stuff above "Pers"?)
stairs:
Another here: viewtopic.php?p=15731#p15731 (But then it has many other similarities with PoP...)
And if you're tired of stairs always going to the side, here are some that go straight up:

The sky's orange, so perhaps it's a pool or waterhole reflecting the sky?David wrote:(Hey, what is that orange stuff above "Pers"?)
Re: Various
Some time ago I was searching for "jump through the mirror", and I found this:
http://www.dreamviews.com/general-dream ... irror.html
http://www.dreamviews.com/general-dream ... irror.html
They don't mention PoP, though."it's strange that you should mention that, because last night i had a dream where i jumped through a mirror and i met my shadow self too."
Re: Does this remind you of PoP?
You might already know trick 2. [It's hard to see, but the number is a link...]
You know, where a guard presses a button for you on the other side of a closed gate.
Aladdin on the Sega Game Gear has something similar: https://youtu.be/xH1gHd_Nniw?t=1411
And the same thing on the Sega Master System: https://youtu.be/XWwgY2CVKTE?t=1203
The key difference is that in Aladdin, you don't really have to do anything special.

Yeah they do look a little similar.
