Jalal posted this: http://popuw.com/bullshit.html
Judging from the filename and that he removed the ending of the funding URL, he thinks that this is a scam.

Just saw that too and having received many such forwarded mails in the past who can blame him for being sceptical? 419 scams are a veritable cottage industry nowadays.

Those new SNES sprites (by Emlyn Lewis) are stretched *very* big.
So big that one or two sprites fill the screen when zoomed to 100%.
The sprites of the sitting princess have scanlines, I wonder why...

I know it's futile, but anyone know what happened to this grand promise made more than 4 years back? http://popuw.com/forum still says "The forum archive will be posted here." Hardy har har. Why the pretence when it's clear there's no intent to do what was promised, and likely never was? As if anyone ever cared about seeing nicely formatted pages, or that we couldn't handle the DB extraction ourselves if Jalal didn't have time for it. >:(

Well, we don't know that.
Either way, a couple of months ago he e-mailed me that he's still planning to work on it.
I'm guessing it's a matter of priorities, that he's busy with other stuff.

I don't think he wants to hand over the DB because of private messages, IP addresses, and so on.
The latter makes sense and I'll also bring this up in my response to your post here.
(I can already tell you that I agree with you that we should prevent a single point of failure wherever possible.)

Well, perhaps a little over-reaction on my part, but I don't think the criticism's entirely unjustified. I mean, how many years has it been now? No-one can claim that they had absolutely no time at all for something like this over such a long period. I chalk it down to complete disinterest more than anything else.

"Planning". Riiight. Forgive me if I laugh bitterly at this statement. All I have to say in response is, I'll believe it when I see it. Hopefully it'll happen in this lifetime...

Again, if there was any interest at all in making this happen, those things could have been taken care of eons ago. I'm sure there are documented ways and even tools to extract just the post texts from the DB (whatever format it was in). He could have also selected another responsible member of the community to do the work if he was himself unable to. Point is, where there's a will there's a way, and beyond a point the excuses really start to wear thin and only result in looks of disbelief.

From what I can tell it was a phpBB forum.
I guess you could search the web or ask in #phpBB@Freenode if there is an easy way to extract such information from the database.
Then you could present this information to Jalal via e-mail.
Maybe he's dreading working on it because he expects it to be a tremendous undertaking.
If there's an easy way he might go for it.
