lemdop 0.7b

Post by Norbert »

Here's lemdop, the level editor of Prince of Persia for the Mega Drive and Sega Genesis.

Download links for version 0.7b:
- Windows (mirror)
- GNU/Linux (mirror)

This is a beta release.
The software is feature complete, but most likely still contains some - hopefully small - bugs.

I could not have created lemdop without David's documentation of the file formats.
Thanks again David. :)

Attached are some 32-bit files for Windows, for people who are living in the past.
Copy these into the lemdop-0.7b/ directory; overwrite the existing files.

Note: you will also have to replace Mednafen, make it 32-bit too.
The Mednafen/ directory should contain the files from this ZIP.

Unzip "lemdop-0.7b-win64.zip", this will create a "lemdop-0.7b/" directory.
Then, unzip "32bit.zip" and put the files from this ZIP into the "lemdop-0.7b/" directory mentioned above.
Finally, unzip "mednafen-0.9.39.2-win32.zip" and put the files from this ZIP into the "lemdop-0.7b/Mednafen/" directory.

You can create a video of what you're doing.
Then I can watch your video and subsequently give you suggestions on how to move forward.

Just was testing with usa version, all seemed to work good, until added more special tiles like chompers and doors, to recieve this message "saving is currently impossible", how the game limit the total of those, and why cant be increased?

The ROM file is packed with data (images, levels, etc) and there's simply no more free space.

You could start by clearing all levels; making all rooms empty.
A quick way to clear a single room is by clicking the middle mouse button on one of the room's tiles.

In theory the program could be modified to allow its users to add more objects.
However, if you first clear out all rooms and don't create huge levels, you won't run into issues.
It would be too much unpleasant work for me to modify the program to allow more objects.

Clearing all room tiles will not affect the free space used, so each space tile is one more byte to use for other room?

Do you understand this table?

If you clear an entire room, and that room had 2 tiles from the "chomper" group...
..then you can use 2 tiles from the "chomper" group somewhere else.

Based on that the editor is limiting the number of specific tiles, for example 30 doors is really few in some cases, and 39 close floors?? there is no way to change those, force rom to have more tiles?

Those are not the editor's limits, those are the ROM's limits.

I still don't understand what you mean.
In your image, what is "ID"?
And why is it 1 in that image?
Do you mean like a color or something?
In the image, "S" is skill, and "H" is hit points.
