Small differences in PoP1 for Mac OS

Post by David »

I found some not well known things in the Mac OS version of PoP1:

* Undocumented keys:
key above Tab: Pause. (Same as Esc.) [Or is this the "Clear" key mentioned in the manual?]
Tab: Frame step. (Esc does not do this in this version.)
Backspace: Toggle menu.

* You can save and load the game at the level 3 checkpoint properly.
Are there any other such versions of PoP1?
The SEGA CD manual claims something similar, but it doesn't seem to work.
It *seems* that the SNES passwords were intended to store the checkpoint flag, but it was dropped. Details here: viewtopic.php?p=19076#p19076

* The quotes in the demo version are different from those in the DOS version:

You can find the DOS quotes here (1.0) and here (1.3).

You can get the PoP1 Mac demo from here: http://popuw.com/mac.html
Note that the popdemo.sit.hqx file is not a HQX file, so you need to remove the ".hqx" before you try to put it onto a Mac disk image.

The Mac quotes:
"The figure animation is positively inspiring in this filmlike action quest." - Video Games and Computer Entertainment
"Prince of Persia is the Star Wars of its field." - Computer Gaming World
"It may well be the best game I've seen on any computer." - Incider A+
"It's a technological triumph and tremendous fun to play." - PC Resource
"Prince of Persia is, quite simply, one of the three or four best PC games ever." - AmigaWorld

These are stored as images; I extracted them:
