(Game Boy) Small things I noticed

It seems that in PoP for the Game Boy, the prince will draw his sword even if the guard is on the other side of a chasm.
Note that the guard will not walk into the chasm.
Nor can you drive the prince into it, unless you put the sword away.

Well, this is exactly what happens in the Game Boy version: https://youtu.be/iMmxzePS62g?list=PL006 ... EDE7&t=163

(Game Boy) Misspellings (Italian)

I'm not sure if this is important, but...

When I was writing the Game Boy format documentation about texts, I noticed that some words in the Italian texts contain "SPC":

(These screenshots are from the European GB version of PoP, but the GBC version has the same texts.)

Now, I know that some Italian words begin with three consonants, such as "sgraffito", but Wiktionary says that these words are written with "SP", not "SPC":
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/sposa#Italian vs. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/spcosa#Italian
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/speranze#Italian vs. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/spceranze#Italian
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/dispetto#Italian vs. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/dispcetto#Italian
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/sperando#Italian vs. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/spcerando#Italian

It looks as if someone blindly replaced "SP" with "SPC" everywhere.
I wonder why...

EDIT: Added Wiktionary links to the misspelled variants as well.

EDIT: Disclaimer: I don't speak Italian.

(I moved these posts to a single topic.)

I made these screenshots back in 2016, and I found them again only now.

The Japanese version does not have the two raise buttons in the first room of level 5.
Accordingly, the gate which they would raise is already open.

I hope you don't mind me chipping in... :) Here's a few tidbits I noticed comparing the two Gameboy versions:

1. In the original black-and-white version, you face off against a ghost in Level 3. In the Gameboy Colour version, it's a skeleton as expected.

2. In a similar vein, Jaffar looks a lot like a "normal" guard, perhaps identical to the guard in level 6 (who is very much not fat) in the original Gameboy version, i.e. very different than in the intro. His fighting style is also identical to the guards. In the Colour version, he looks identical to his appearance in the intro and has a slightly different fighting style: he's using both hands to hold the sword and his attack and parry moves are different.

3. You can have up to 9 hitpoints after picking up all life potions as merging with the Shadow doesn't reward you with another hitpoint. However, only 7 are shown in the life bar.

edit: I see these differences have already been documented. Sorry...

No need to be sorry, at least now they are in one place. :)

And in Level 10, it's possible to fight across a chasm. :)

I tried that now.
Somehow the prince could defeat the guard without falling into the chasm. :)

MobyGames has a screenshot similar to the first post: https://www.mobygames.com/game/gameboy- ... Id,845138/
Amazingly, it's only a few days older than my post.

Earlier I found out that the black-and-white Game Boy PoP replaces the skeleton with an outlined guard.

Even earlier I found some related sprites in the Game Boy Color PoP ROM.

And now, I found a magazine article which mentions this.
The article from Advanced Computer Entertainment (ACE), N. 55 (Apr 1992) says this:
"the skeletons now appear as eerie translucent images of the evil Jaffar"
