Apple ][ Source FOUND!
Re: Source FOUND!
Thanks Norbert and David!
Re: Source FOUND!
PAC.MAGICFIRE: Is this a forerunner of the Flame from PoP2?
It also reminds me of the floor fires found in Runen.
PAC.TORCHONWALL: So Mechner planned to make doors which can be opened with keys which you pick up from the floor.
But why is there a key on the wall? Is it merely a reminder that this door needs a key? Like in Tears of Fury?
And there is an arch near the torch, with floor visible inside. Would it lead somewhere?
PAC.BONES: So the skeletons could have swords?
PAC.PRINCESS: Might be related to this drawing?
PAC.PRINC2 and PAC.PRINC5: Some parts look quite ugly, maybe they are raw scanned images?
Here the hourglass is on the left side. I guess Mechner moved it to the middle in the final game because it's more dramatic if Jaffar conjures it in front of the Princess?

Re: Apple ][ Source FOUND!
I know of some which you missed:
https://www.apple.asimov.net/images/gam ... woz-a-day/
Prince of Persia 800K (woz-a-day collection).zip is not in your collection.
Problem: this one cannot be opened in AppleWin 1.30.9.0 (the latest version), "because the disk image is an unsupported size."
It does not work as a hard disk either.
But it works in archive.org's emulator: https://archive.org/details/wozaday_Pri ... ersia_800K
https://www.apple.asimov.net/images/gam ... nc_prodos/
prince of persia unpacked PRODOS (san inc pack).po is not in your collection; although PoP1_AppleII/po/2/PoP1.po is similar to it.
BTW, its readme says "unpacked version of Prince of Persia, suitable for modding".
https://www.apple.asimov.net/images/gam ... of_persia/
Prince of Persia (Cracked 3.5 floppy for IIc+).po is not in your collection.
This one does not work in AppleWin, it keeps rebooting infinitely.
On the flip side, these images from your collection are new to me:
- PoP1_AppleII/2mg/2/PoP1.2mg
- PoP1_AppleII/po/2/PoP1.po
- PoP1_AppleII/po/3/PoP1.po
Re: Apple ][ Source FOUND!
The Easter Eggs document points to a PoP1_A1.po file that I'd put online at some point. It appears to differ from all versions we mentioned above. Not only that, for some reason the file online (at popot.org) differs from my local copy of the website. I've attached both to this post, in the ZIP file, as local.po and online.po.

Re: Apple ][ Source FOUND!
local.po is the correct file and online.po is corrupted.Norbert wrote: ↑June 25th, 2022, 7:38 am The Easter Eggs document points to a PoP1_A1.po file that I'd put online at some point. AppleWin can't even open online.po, probably because its size is wrong. (And there is no error message, like with np21w.)
As I see it, something turned a series of 0D bytes into a single one.
In some other cases, 0D 0A was turned into 0A.
It might be related to normalization of line endings. (0D = CR, 0A = LF)
I see the current file on popot.org is the correct file.
Re: Apple ][ Source FOUND!
Right. So, amazingly - there's no other way to put it, in my opinion - Filezilla has, by default
Edit->Settings...->Transfers->FTP: File Types->Default transfer type
set to "Auto" instead of "Binary".
A related topic at Stack Overflow, where someone justifiably comments:
It is amazing how moronic some computer nerds are.I don't understand the rationale behind having 'auto' as default. This will rewrite a lot of downloaded files, invalidating hashes. I would assume most people want their file unchanged by the transport. Functionality to rewrite is typically in the viewing or editor domain, not transport. My 2 cents.

Re: Apple ][ Source FOUND!
I think the "po" in the list was intended for gettext source files.
(Of course this does not make it any less annoying.)
BTW, why did you upload the disk image as a "bare" file instead of a ZIP?
Re: Apple ][ Source FOUND!
This way, visitors can get started right away without having to unzip. It's a single file, just like a ZIP would have been. And it's small enough that there's not much impact on storage space and transfer quotas. I've made the same choice for other, similar downloads, such as for SNES.
