need footage
need footage
Hi PoP1 for SNES fans, I need some SNES footage for the PoP modding video.
Who's willing to help?
Some footage of 2-3 (maybe 4) SNES mods.
I'll use 15 seconds footage in total (not per mod), something like that.
It's okay to create more footage, but I'll cut it down to 5 seconds per mod or so.
And I would like to show a SNES-only trick in the video.
The trick I have in mind is where you do something like this but grab the tile further inwards. (Something that's impossible under DOS.)
A custom room to show off this trick would have to be as basic as the rooms shown here. (So not a room in a random, existing mod somewhere.)

Re: need footage
I've attached a video showing two tricks which are also doable under DOS. The first one was the solution to obtain a life potion in my lost mod "Levels 11"
Most of the SNES-only tricks that I know, can badly spoil "The Quiet Levels."

Re: need footage
Is this the trick you were referring to?
Re: need footage
Hey, thanks guys.
I'll use both videos (the first trick from Kaslghnoon and the trick Iso shows).
Iso, can you attach the footage to a post (or PM it to me or upload it somewhere)?
Can anyone also record some footage of actual SNES mods?
Preferably sections that you think look nice or are interesting for another reason.
It's about quick impressions. I want to show 3-4 mods, just 5 seconds or so per mod, that it's just enough for viewers to see custom SNES levels exist and can be cool.

Re: need footage
I deleted the video file but I can make it again real quick tonight, and I'll work on getting some SNES mod footage.
Re: need footage
Hey, I could do the tilegrab under DOS! (I mean the same thing that is shown by videos in this topic.)Norbert wrote:The trick I have in mind is where you do something like this but grab the tile further inwards. (Something that's impossible under DOS.)
(a) Go as right as you can, turn left, step one, press left and then right, and when the kid is below the upper floor, press shift.
(b) Or, as in the video by Kaslghnoon: climb down and up at the left edge, jump up three times, turn left, and then the same as above.
I've attached videos of both methods to this post.
(By the way, the SNES video by Iso doesn't show how to reach the exact position.)

Oh. Nice.David wrote:Hey, I could do the tilegrab under DOS!Norbert wrote:(Something that's impossible under DOS.)
Hm... yes, I guess it might be better if it did.David wrote:(By the way, the SNES video by Iso doesn't show how to reach the exact position.)
Iso, are you willing to give it another run?
Re: need footage
Done, with the same positioning used in David's. But isn't it moot since it's no longer a SNES-only trick?
Back to the drawing board!

Re: need footage
Thanks.
The modding video will show several tricks, and it's nice if some are shown in the SNES environment...
...because it shows the viewer that (similarly to mods and such) tricks are also available for the SNES version.
This is what I can use these SNES videos for.
No, it's still useful.Iso wrote:But isn't it moot since it's no longer a SNES-only trick?

Re: need footage
Since I was very busy with my studies I couldn't carry on with my mod or anything releated to the PoP forum . Now that I'm available, I'll contribute. To make some footage I need a good video recorder, which I don't have. Anybody can recomend me a good video recorder? I use Windows XP.
Norbert, how much time is there mor making footage?, I want to show footage of my non-finnished mod, but I must release it first.

This will be my face if you can't win any of my mods
Re: need footage
I don't know. Two weeks?robert wrote:Norbert, how much time is there mor making footage?, I want to show footage of my non-finnished mod, but I must release it first.
If I were you I wouldn't rush things just to have a few seconds of your mod in the video.
But it's up to you, of course.

Re: need footage
I've attached two videos.
Below is a situation where it is impossible to safely get the Prince down to the middle row under DOS.
The first video shows me utilizing a SNES-only trick to solve the problem.
The second video is genuine footage from The Quiet Levels.
If you're interested, you can download the latest version of snes9x:
http://www.zophar.net/download_file/22380
If you initially hear no sound or get an error message, change the sound driver to "FMOD Ex Default" after pressing Alt+t.
When you're ready to record your gameplay, go to File, Movie Record. This is going to save a snes9x movie file (SMV). Save as many SMV files as you want without worrying about disk space because SMV files take kilobytes from your hard drive. To make AVI video, do File, Movie Play, choose an SMV file, the SMV movie will start playing and now you can do File, Start AVI Recording. The compression of the AVI file will depend on video codecs installed in your Windows.
Of course you could directly record AVI while you're playing but I wouldn't recommend it.

Re: need footage
As I wrote here, if you'd like footage of your SNES mod in the modding video, please record something no later than 21 July.
So, no later than next Sunday, please. I'm going to add only one 5 second video per mod (and preferably also per author). I'll point Iso to this post.
If nobody feels like recording a SNES mod, that's okay too; then I'll record a couple of simple things from two randomly picked SNES mods.
