Level editor for the SNES version
Re: Level editor for the SNES version
Hi David,
Just wanted to say a massive thank you for developing this snes level editor. It was always the thing I most wished for when I was younger, for so many years, and just came by it a few weeks ago. In a way it's good I didn't find it last year when you first released it as I'd never have got anything else done. I hardly have any time these days but I'd like to make at least one level set with it and post it for anyone who's interested. (I did a few sets for the original pc pop a few years back, including the snes layouts and the 'mirror' set. Making new graphics as I did with the original would be nice but it's not likely to happen anymore).
Are you still developing or improving this editor these days? I'm sure you have a list of things to modify, but if not, I could make some suggestions.
Thanks again!

Re: Level editor for the SNES version
Wow, I see that popot.org only has version 6 (#9), I'll add version 7 (#10) ASAP.
I didn't even know about version 7 (#10) with the palette editor, nice stuff!
[Edit: added the actual numbers.]

Re: Level editor for the SNES version
I've encountered a glitch with some background textures - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOiGJFX2 ... e=youtu.be
The two banner point textures flicker between some other random textures. This also happens with the top-left level entrance/exit door background, which didn't happen until I was almost done making the level. Anyone know what's causing this?
Edit: For whatever reason, youtube made it darker than it should be.

Re: Level editor for the SNES version
Which level (and which room) is this? I know that some levels contain animated backgrounds (water, clouds). If you changed the level type, the game might still try to animate the background with the same index, or at the same position.
Re: Level editor for the SNES version
Training Level 1, room 17. Though the glitch happens anywhere I put the textures.David wrote:Which level (and which room) is this? Re: Level editor for the SNES version
I looked closely at your video, and found out which backgrounds are shown there. (0x50, 0x51, 0x52)
Now, if I place these on the level, and change the type back to blue dungeon, they will be displayed as the animation frames of a rock in the water.
However, they are not animated on Training Level 1, room 17.
I could get them to animate only on Level 1.
But I can't get any of the banners to animate.
EDIT: I found out that some animation-related data is stored at the same place at the tile attributes (floor, wall) in bits 2-7.
And, probably, the automatic mode of the editor copied these to positions of the banner tiles when creating the new tiles.
But, the problem can't be simply fixed by clicking on the banner tiles and unchecking the checkboxes, because the editor currently thinks that all of these bits are bound to the foreground tiles.
I'll try to fix this in the next version of the editor.
For now, the only solution is to export the level, open it in a hex editor, and perform a Logical AND with value=0x03 at the addresses 0xB70-0xC6F. And then import it back.

Re: Level editor for the SNES version
Cool, thanks for looking into it. I tried the hex editing business but I'm kind of lost so I'll wait for the next version.David wrote:I'll try to fix this in the next version of the editor.

Re: Level editor for the SNES version
I've fixed the problem, and attached the new version to this post.
Here's how to fix your level:
Click on the tile that is misbehaving, and type zero into the textbox between the dropdown lists.

Good work David !
But i found a problem , when you change a wall ( graphic editor ) you can not create new object with the right list . Suddenly an error message appears

Ugh... yes, I didn't test it properly.
I fixed this, and attached the new version to this post.

Re: Level editor for the SNES version
Couple questions - Is there any way to change the color of the torches? You can do it in the editor but it doesn't show up in-game.
Also, is there (or will there be) any way to make the prince start swordless in each level?
Btw, love the tile graphic editor. Works brilliantly.
