The DOS version has it easier: Just change the hardware palette registers, and the color changes *immediately* and *everywhere*. I was thinking about the dungeon wall generating algorithm, I've coded it for FP, and understood how it works, but there is a seed that the game uses and I think it is saved inside the game.
