Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

PoP crashed on level 12: crash_level_12.png Here is the savestate: crash_level_12.zip Unfortunately I did not save the game *before* the crash, so I can't easily test whether the game always crashes at that point. Hi David, Thank you for providing the save state - this was very helpful. I have iden...

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

Is there any way to also skip the BITSHIFTERS commercial? Modders playtest a lot. In short bursts, I mean. Which means re-starting levels a lot. You can remove the loading screens and wait for keypress by changing the bytes at offsets 0x34f, 0x3b8 and 0x3c1 from 0x20 (JSR function) to 0x2c (BIT - e...

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

Hi Nobert & David, Sorry for the slow reply - it's been a crazy few days. I see you have figured out the versioning system and located the build number within the disc image. If you hadn't found them yet, the level files start at offset 0x24200 and are spaced 0xA00 bytes apart (not 0x900.) I did...

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

Hi everyone, Just to let you know that I release v1.0 of the port last night. You can find more details and the download / online emulator here: https://bitshifters.github.io/posts/prods/bs-pop-beeb.html . Big thanks again to Norbert and David for all their help playtesting, giving feedback on the p...

It says "absense" instead of "absence".
Great spot, thank you! Have added to GitHub issues: https://github.com/kieranhj/pop-beeb/issues/153

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

There is a high pitched ding sound effect, similar to - I guess - gates fully opening or closing, or the spike sound, that plays occasionally. Seemingly out of nowhere, for no apparent reason. Even after playing all levels, it's still unclear to me what audio clue/indicator this is supposed to be. ...

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

I don't really understand how it is related to frame rates, since the replayed moves should use the same framerate as the display. Anyway, I see you fixed it already: https://github.com/kieranhj/pop-beeb/commit/939a5fdbb32607acd7a7485be3b7609ddcf9f355 Yes, you would think so. I have experience (lon...

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

By the way, attached is a video recording that illustrates the audio issue where notes keep playing indefinitely until another sound effect plays. (I'm a better player than you see in the video. I was trying to do things to make the audio react in a specific way.) Thanks for the video, with the las...

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

Thanks, I'll look into it (playtest) soon. [Edit: Yes, it seems to have been fixed.] Attached is a dump of the state related to the crash, in case you could/can not replicate the issue. By the way, when rebinding keys, some letters of the input questions at the bottom now seem partially missing? Al...

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

Starting with the latter. Note the differences related to Apple II's auto-alignment correction to run-jump from the very edge of loose floors. [Edit: Actually, auto-alignment correction of run-jumps from edges seems to be missing completely in your port, so not just with loose tiles. To state the i...

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

Here are the rest of my findings. Again, overall this is a very solid port. Really good. Being able to rebind keys now is a lifesaver. Hi Norbert, thanks for taking the time to play the game, I'm glad you think it is good and a solid port. Your comprehensive reports below will help me make it great...

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

Overall, you've made great progress, and the port is a good experience. I have more to say than just the following, but in level 12(a), after merging with the shadow, after I'd touched the first tile that appears 'out of thin air', the game's screen went black and after a couple of seconds I was ba...

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

Thanks for the quick feedback. Okay, I had to do Shift+Pause. (My Pause key doesn't mention Break, by the way.) This is after using Shift+F12 to access the System settings to pick the different model. I thought I could just press Okay to verify the different model, because that redraws and thus app...

Re: Apple II port to BBC Master computer

I'm trying to use your latest pop-beeb.dsd from master with BeebEm, but even with the BBC Master 218 model and Full (instruction) set, it still just gives me a > prompt. Any suggestions? Hmmm, I just downloaded the dsd file from GitHub to check and it worked fine for me. Did you press SHIFT-BREAK (...
