Your edited BMP files are in the RGB format. They should be indexed, with just 16 colors. Open the initial (original) images with GIMP and then check Windows->Dockable Dialogs->Colormap to see the default colors. In your image, what is "ID"?
And why is it 1 in that image?
Do you mean like a color or something?
In the image, "S" is skill, and "H" is hit points.

Small addition for section 9.1 ("Falling Tiles"). If there is no room above room 16 or 23, then tiles in the bottom row will be triggered instead. The tile effects this triggers are the same as what would normally happen above the room, e.g. spikes come out, gates open instantly, etc. Loos...

i just rationalize this aspect of the game as part of the magic cast by Jaffar. otherwise, the structure of the game should be something like the Prince starts at, say, 6 levels of dungeon, followed by 6 levels of palace. Note that David has since posted a more permanent workaround to fix the problem.
Change the three popot.org lines in the file ini\mirror_sites.ini that have "http" to "https".
